Kim Shattuck, singer of the band the Muffs, died Wednesday at the age of 56 years old from lou gehrig’s disease, which she was suffering since two years. It is her friend and ex-member of the group, Melanie Vammen, who announced on Instagram, showing a message from the husband of Kim, Kevin Sutherland.

“This morning, the love of my life, Kim, died peacefully in his sleep after struggling for two years against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,” reads one. “I am the man I am today because of it. She will continue to live with all of us through his music, our memories shared and his creative spirit fierce. I will always love you my Kimmy. Thank you for sharing your life with me,” concludes Kevin.

Born in Los Angeles in 1963, Kim Shattuck had been part of several rock bands including The Pandoras, White Flag and more recently, the punk band from california, The Muffs. In 2013, she had accompanied the Pixies on their european tour following the departure of Kim Deal, the bassist.
