The american artist Missy Elliott has become the 13 June 2019 the first rapper inducted into the pantheon of songwriters, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, in a promotion which also included the folk singer Yusuf (Cat Stevens). In tears, Melissa Elliott – his real name – has received his prize from the hands of Queen Latifah, one of the great pioneers of the rap end of the generation that preceded his own.

Before the presentation of this award, the Songwriters Hall of Fame had released a video of Michelle Obama who noted that she was a fan of the rapper a native of Virginia, aged 47 years. The singer, Izzo, and rapper Da Brat to him were then honored on stage by taking on certain of its securities. Before Missy Elliott, the two other rappers – Jermaine Dupri (2018) and Jay-Z (2017) – had already been elected to the pantheon of authors of songs.
