peau d’âne , this is a musical comedy that is enriched by all the resources of theatre, be they artistic or technical. One has this great idea to the Spanish Emilio Sagi in the direction of this “fairy tale musical”. He was inspired by the film of Jacques Demy peau d’âne , itself adapted from the fairy Tale by Charles Perrault in 1694. The director had already been noticed in France, twelve years ago, when he had performed at the Châtelet The singer of Mexico city . Here it is at the head of a production that does not skimp on the means.

On stage, the distribution is very “dance” as two of the most important roles are played by former dancers of the Paris Opera. First, Michael Denard, who embodies the king of the kingdom of blue, and then Marie-Agnès Gillot in the queen of the united red. To those are added a number of other strong characters, like the fairy of the lilac, armed with his magic wand and mounted on roller skates, embodied beautifully by the English Emma Kate Nielson.

We follow the heroine, a teenager trying by all means to escape the lust of his father the king, and who could luckily count on the help of a fairy. Of course, it is not necessary to go to the Marigny to see a copy of the original film. This new version of the Skin of an ass captivates from the first seconds. All the scenes are linked together with fluidity, punctuated for our greatest happiness by the great tunes that, in 1970, had contributed to the success of the film with Jean Marais and Catherine Deneuve. A real success story which should be full during its four months on display in the magnificent Théâtre Marigny.
