If you are the descendent of a Jew or Israeli citizen, or you are a spouse of an Israeli citizen, you can apply for Israeli citizenship if you want to settle in Israel permanently. You have to settle in Israel to prove your worth for citizenship for all the right intents along with gaining Israeli passport. There is also no time limit here on residency.

You simply have to present a proof that you are actually settling there permanently, such as rental agreement for housing, utility bills with your name, and work contracts. You don’t have to work in this time. It would be great if you show work documents when applying for citizenship.

Show your descent – Visit the Ministry of the Interior (Misrad Hapnim) or Israeli consulate and show your birth certificate. Also present your marriage certificate to the ministry if your partner is an Israeli citizen or Jewish. It is the first stage of citizenship application. You will get the right application forms to fill and they will tell what other documents you need to submit. You may also consult with Israeli citizenship lawyer.

Achieve Citizenship and ID – After completing the application process, you will get Israeli id card apart from documents related to citizenship (including Israeli passport, though the process may take 2 to 3 months to process). Also apply for driver’s license to have more documents to show your residence status. You need to take an eye exam, health exam from a physician, schedule drive lesson, and take written exam to attain driver’s license in Israel.

You can also gain Israeli citizenship with naturalization. You need to have permanent residence in Israel for at least 3 of 5 years before applying. It presents that you genuinely want to be the citizen of Israel.
